Living in the middle of nowhere is remarkably peaceful, provided nothing needs fixing, feeding, hauling, heating, or paying for. We’ll let you know if that day ever arrives.

We’re Jennifer and Arön Toland, coming to you from our remote home and wilderness resort at Eliguk Lake, British Columbia. This short trailer gives you a first listen to our Season 2 introduction. The full episodes begin in November.

This season on Furthermost Outpost, we’re getting into the logistics of thriving out here: keeping everything working, making supplies last, and discovering what another year of off-grid life has added to the list.

We’ll talk about what it costs to keep the place running, from fuel and repairs to equipment that develops expensive opinions of its own. Hauling supplies home takes planning, patience, and occasionally more than one mode of transport. “We’ll just pop into town” remains an excellent joke.

Then there’s hosting guests from around the world. We’ll share what goes into welcoming people to a place this remote, feeding them well, and helping them experience the wilderness we call home. Everybody arrives with a different story. The logistics of getting them here can supply a few more.

We’ll also talk about our experience filming Mountain Men: Wild North VS the original U.S. Mountain Men, welcoming a film crew into our lives, and making television around the work of actually living here. The chores have shown very little interest in a shooting schedule.

There’ll be foraging, growing, cooking, preserving, and finding new ways to stock and store our food caches for the long months ahead. There’s considerable satisfaction in knowing where your dinner came from, especially when it didn’t need its own freight budget. We’ll share the ideas, the work, and what we’re learning along the way.

And through all of it, we’re trying to keep a marriage flourishing. A sense of humour comes in handy when you live and work together, particularly when you both remember the same event differently. Expect some marital banter. Any discrepancies in our recollections will be delivered with complete confidence.

We’ve lined up some amazing guests for this season, too, bringing fresh voices, different experiences, and plenty more to talk about. It should give Arön and I an opportunity to practise letting someone else finish a sentence.

There’s hard work in this life, and plenty of planning, but there are also the people who find their way here, the meals worth sitting down for, and the quiet evenings that make us remember why we chose it.
